More than a kick butt workout, the magic of Studio B is the amazing women who gather here each and every day. Each woman brings her own unique strength and story to the barre and it is my honor to use this space to spotlight a barre addict on the first Wednesday of each month.
This month, we are honored to introduce you to Kelly Poe! Kelly is not only a beloved Studio B regular but she is also an incredible Studio B barre instructor! She has the ability to help her students push the limits with her positive attitude, awesome sequences, and crazy fun music (she even did an entire class devoted to Nelly! YES PLEASE!!). She is the perfect mix of kind, welcoming, and hard-core all at the same time. We are so glad that she came from Chicago to join us here. Prepare to be inspired (I know we are!!):
BARRE ADDICT // KELLY POE
Q: INTRODUCE YOURSELF…
Hi I am Kelly. I was born and raised in Ohio. About a year ago I moved back to Ohio from Chicago. I am 30 years old, married less than a year to an amazing man and step-mom to a super cool 13 year old. I love to travel, read, drink wine and hang out with my family.
Q: WHEN YOU’RE NOT PLIÉ (ING), SHAKING AND STRETCHING AT STUDIO B WELLNESS, WHERE CAN YOU BE FOUND?
In the summer you will most likely find me at the pool with friends, trying a new restaurant (so much has changed in Columbus since we lived here before,) going to the movies, or traveling – most of which are done with a glass of wine in hand.
Q: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN COMING TO STUDIO B?
We moved back to Columbus last summer and it took me a while to find a barre studio I loved. It was love at first class in December and I have been coming ever since.
Q: HOW OFTEN DO YOU TAKE BARRE CLASSES?
I try to make it to 4 classes a week
Q: WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK/WHAT DO YOU THINK SETS STUDIO B APART FROM OTHER WORKOUTS?
Barre changed my body more than anything I have ever done before. I am constantly challenged in class. Specifically at Studio B the community of people keep me coming back. Day one on my visit to Studio B other women I had never met were talking to me and including me in the group conversation, I instantly felt part of the community and that is something I haven’t experienced in any group fitness class ever. I love the passion the entire team has. Nancy has thought of every little detail on how to really create an experience; she and the rest of the team are amazing.
Q: WHAT CHANGES HAVE YOU NOTICED IN YOUR BODY & LIFE SINCE YOU STARTED COMING USING THE STUDIO B METHOD?
Studio B gave me an awesome community and new friends since moving back to Columbus. But my butt is one of the places I see the most change – it is getting kicked on a regular basis in class.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BARRE MOVE?
This was a tough one because there are so many. I think I like standing seatwork the best, it is such a simple movement but works the entire glute so it’s efficient.
Q: WHAT IS THE MOVE THAT MOST CHALLENGES YOU?
Any of the thigh work we do full range, it creates an instant burn and shake. I am always challenged to make it though the set.
Q: WHICH SONG PUMPS YOU UP EVERY TIME IT COMES ON?
Any hip hop – but if Nelly is on I am extra motivated.
Q: WHAT 3 WORDS WOULD YOU USE TO DESCRIBE STUDIO B?
Community, Challenge, FUN!
Q: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE FOR SOMEONE ABOUT TO TAKE HER FIRST BARRE CLASS?
My advice would be to be kind to your self and ask questions after class. I hated the first barre class I ever took. I was not familiar with the small movements, the positioning, and thought 5-pound weights were for sissies*. So after my first class I was completely humbled, challenged and a little frustrated. It was different than anything I had done before. I got better each class but there was always a way to challenge myself more. Barre has turned in to hands down my favorite workout ever. *After years of barre classes I am still on 2 pound weights and challenged.
Q: WHAT INSPIRES YOU ON AND OFF THE BARRE?
I am inspired by so many of the people I take class from and with – we have some really cool people at Studio B and they are up to big things in their lives and achieving all kinds of goals. I love to see people pursing their passion, and living their best life it both motivates and inspires me.
Q: HOW CAN PEOPLE FOLLOW ALONG WITH THE GREAT THINGS YOU HAVE GOING ON?
I am a millennial so social media duh. While I have a lot of it I use Instagram & Facebook the most.
