More than a kick butt workout, the magic of Studio B is the amazing women who gather here each and every day. Each woman brings her own unique strength and story to the barre and it is my honor to use this space to spotlight a barre addict on the first Wednesday of each month.
This month, we are honored to introduce you to Beth Burson! This blonde bombshell is the whole package — incredibly thoughtful, generous, and engaging (not to mention… she is so dang fun!). Always investing in her community, she does an amazing job of authentically connecting with the people around her. We are in love with her sparkling smile, amazing hugs, and encouraging strength. Prepare to be inspired (I know we are!!):
BARRE ADDICT // BETH BURSON
Q: INTRODUCE YOURSELF…
Hi! My name is beth Burson and I am a proud barre addict. I live in German Village and enjoy that my favorite workout studio is not only close to home but I can workout and meet new neighbors as well!
Q: WHEN YOU’RE NOT PLIÉ (ING), SHAKING AND STRETCHING AT STUDIO B WELLNESS, WHERE CAN YOU BE FOUND?
I work for an advertising agency downtown called Origo- I am a media planner and love the agency world. I am also an avid volunteer at the german village society and if I have not already tried to recruit you for volunteer opportunities there is a very good chance I will at some point!
Q: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN COMING TO STUDIO B?
I took my very first class at studio b on february 20, 2013. I was on the little bar closest to the kitchen and I was next to Cassandra. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was very very nervous about my body and what to wear. immediately I knew I had found a new home. Cassandra guided me through the class and had me laughing inappropriately the whole time.
Q: HOW OFTEN DO YOU TAKE BARRE CLASSES?
My goal is to attend class 3-4 days a week – Saturday morning class is always my favorite!
Q: WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK/WHAT DO YOU THINK SETS STUDIO B APART FROM OTHER WORKOUTS?
When I first came to Studio B I had just packed up what little I owned, including the cat and moved back to Columbus from Wilmington, NC. I had just left an abusive relationship and was trying to put the scattered pieces of my life back together. One of the scars that needed to heal was my health and my relationship with my body. My boyfriend had been very controlling about what I ate and how often I worked out. He would get online and check my gym membership card to make sure I went to the gym every day and see how long I was there. Working out became something I despised. As an adolescent I took ballet and found being back at the barre like coming home to something comforting and familiar. But it quickly became more than just a workout that I loved…. it became a community of supportive women that I needed. I found friends, support and an awareness of overall wellness that I was looking for.
Q: WHAT CHANGES HAVE YOU NOTICED IN YOUR BODY & LIFE SINCE YOU STARTED COMING USING THE STUDIO B METHOD?
Want to see definition in your arms? Go to Studio B. Want to lift your tush? Go to Studio B. Want to strengthen your core? All Studio B, all day long. I could go on and on. I am in the best shape of my entire life at 36 years old.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BARRE MOVE?
Seated chair – by far my favorite!
Q: WHAT IS THE MOVE THAT MOST CHALLENGES YOU?
Lunges- but I love them, too!
Q: WHICH SONG PUMPS YOU UP EVERY TIME IT COMES ON?
Anything Beyonce, Drake or just plain dirty.
Q: WHAT 3 WORDS WOULD YOU USE TO DESCRIBE STUDIO B?
Strong. Supportive. Safe.
Q: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE FOR SOMEONE ABOUT TO TAKE HER FIRST BARRE CLASS?
Be open. This workout is unlike any other and you will need to make adjustments to how you have typically worked out in the past. Be aware of your body and listen to what it needs. Also be patient! It takes time to get the hang of barre but it is worth every shake and burn!!
Q: WHAT INSPIRES YOU ON AND OFF THE BARRE?
Strong women inspire me, and there are plenty of them at Studio B. We all have a story. We all have a strength and we all have so much to learn from one another.
Q: HOW CAN PEOPLE FOLLOW ALONG WITH THE GREAT THINGS YOU HAVE GOING ON?
I run a happy hour group in German Village called Prost! wanna meet me at the other kind of bar? Look up “Prost” on Facebook (click here!) and join us for some great community events.
